Precipice began in 2009 as a trio consisting of piano, cello, and percussion between new music lovers Margaret Barrett, Cody Green, and Logan Dean.  The three began the ensemble as a way to bring new music to their university and to the Waco area in a way they hoped would inspire others to take up the cause of performing and promoting the music of living composers.

After a relatively quiet first year of playing, the group added flute, violin, and clarinet.  In their second year, the group saw more widespread performances, such as appearing at the Arlington Museum of Art, the Dallas Modern Music Festival, as well as giving recitals at Baylor University and the Jubilee Theater in Waco, TX.  The group also saw it’s first commissions come to fruition from composer Margaret Barrett, who had left the group for some time to focus on her career teaching music and composing.

Since, the group has seen a change in personnel again as students in the group left for further studies in venues as far as Vienna, Austria and as near as Houston, TX.  They’ve appeared in the Baylor Lyceum Series for the first time as artists this year, and have appeared alongside the Baylor Percussion Group in performance as well.

The group in it’s current form consists more as a collective of like minded individuals consisting of violinist Janna Martindale, cellist Cody Green, clarinetist Laura Onwudinanti, flutist Katie Kelley, pianist Margaret Barrett, harpist Vince Pierce and percussionists Logan Dean and Matt Shaver.
